NORTH HOLLY WOOD: A very entertaining dinner and fund raising event was organized on the 28th of March 1992 by the committee and well-wishers of the Gurdwara located at 7640 Lankershim Blvd North Hollywood. Although the cost per plate was $125.00 many supporters donated liberally totaling $200000.00.
This successful event was held at the Granada Pavilion 11128 Balboa Blvd in Granada Hills Ca.
In a statement regarding the need for expansion it was noted that “The existing facility accommodates about 600 people in the main hall and at least $00 in the Kitchen” said Gursharan Singh Nat trustees of the temple committee.
“We have about one-and-a-half acres of land around the present building which we plan utilize” he said adding that the main Gurdwara will be shifted into the Proposed building white keeping the present structure intact.
The proposed $750000 structure will have a bigger congregation hall and a better residential facility for visitors and the priests.
“It’s basically an expansion plan” Nat said claiming that the new construction was necessitated because of the growing number of Sikh devotees and increasing activities of the shrine.
He said the Gurdwara has been basically catering to the spiritual needs of Sikhs residing in San Fernando Valley. “Our weekly congregation averages about 500 to 600 people and on special occasions like Gurpurab or Vaisakhi more than 1500 people come to the temple” he said.
About 400 people attended the fund raiser. The success of this function is attributed to the collective efforts of committee members and the general Sikh Public who were very enthusiastic about contacting each other at a personal level.
The function started at7:30 p.m. Dr. Shivdey Singh was Stage Secretary and did a good job. He elaborated the need for this gurdwara Chairman Malkiat Singh Sidhu explained the necessity of community services. He stressed this institution will provide day care a Khalsa School and a hall for social functions. Dr .H.S Sraon joined the speakers and explained the cause in great detail and noted that each and every contribution will bring a lot of needed development for the community.
Sarabjt Singh Maan President a silent worker was instrumental in bringing in a lot of contributions. Bakhsish Singh Bhalrhu organized the decoration of the hall with the help of the ladies. Jagdish Singh Khangura was very active in this fund raising activity. Gursharan Singh Nat the trustee was a plot for all main activates. Delicious food was served by Delhi Palace.
