Chandigarh — Police atrocities have forced Sikh young men to retaliate violently against their practice of arresting innocent youth and _ subjecting them to inhuman tortures, encounters and indignities. A young Sikh, S. Gurinder Singh, was hauled up by four policemen here Saturday. He was dressed only in undershorts and turban, the usual summer wear of farmers in the field.
Gurinder Singh provoked by an insulting remark, snatched the rifle from one of the policemen and opened fire at them, killing two on the spot and wounding the other two.
Meanwhile more police force reached the scene and gun battle followed watched by thousands of people. Gurinder Singh was over powered when he was left with no ammunition.
The wounded policemen were rushed to the hospital.
