Everyone has noticed a recent surge of interest in the Sikh Studies on University campuses across USA, Canada, Japan and many other countries besides England, India and Pakistan where such studies have been done traditionally. In order to further promote this interest and to provide a platform for dissemination of research data, a proposal to’ form an international society has been bounced around for last year or so resulting in a very positive enthusiasm. In order to give a definite shape to this enthusiasm, we have selected the venue of THE FOURTH ANNUAL SIKH STUDIES CONFERENCE for holding the first organizational meeting to lay the foundation of the Sikh Studies Association. This notice serves to formally invite you to this meeting which will be held on Saturday, December 3, 1988, at 4 p.m. at Asian Studies Center, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. The agenda suggested thus far is as below:
AGENDA
- Adoption of interim statement of objectives
- Election of Interim Officers and Council, bylaws committee and nomination committee.
- Proposals for a society journal.
- Formulation of plans to register the society as a non-profit educational entity, and determination of a location for the international and national offices.
Although we are expecting your active participation at the meeting in December, we urge you to send us your thoughts regarding the scope of this Association for our guidance. We want to be better prepared to make full use of this gathering. This invitation is being extended to a selected number of academician’s and professionals. If you wish to nominate additional invitee, please write to Dr. Lal.
The conveners of this meeting have no funds. Thus we regret to inform you that travel expenses will be the responsibility of the participants and/or their institutions. Local hospitality may be provided for a limited number of participants. If you need such assistance, please write to:
