EDMONTON: 2nd Anniversary of Satwant Singh & Kehar Singhs Martyrdom.
WSO (Edmonton Chapter). The Sikh Federation of Edmonton and Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha joined together to hold a commemorative diwan on Sunday the 6th of January 1991 to mark the second anniversary of the martyrdom of S. Satwant Singh and S. Kehar Singh.
Inspite of frigid temperatures (30.C) large number of local Sikhs assembled to pay homage to the Sikh martyrs and to reflect on the political and constitutional situation facing the Sikh nation. Ranbir Singh Dhaliwal Secretary Sri Guru Singh Sabha urged the congregation to rediscover their spiritual and historical roots and strengths and follow the glorious path shown by our Gurus and our martyrs to uphold and enhance the fundamental principles of Sikh ideology. He added that every Sikhs name is comprised of two parts one given by the parents and the other given by the Guru. It is every Sikhs duty to be true to both the parent and the Guru by upholding the values of the family and the Sikh religion.
Jasbeer Singh WSO Vice President (Alberta region) traced the chronology of the developments leading to the martyrdom of Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh. He presented a picture of the political cultural and administrative situation in India and pointed out that no Sikh or a member of any other minority community could expect physical emotional economic spiritual or constitutional security in that environment.
The Governor of India sought to bring the Sikh nation to its knees and pressure the Sikhs to accept an existence as slaves. Had the free world taken notice of this genocidal attack against the Sikhs the Muslim minority of India might have been spared the anguish they now face.
The direction for the Sikh nation was clearly shown by Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and further reinforced by other Sikh martyrs. It is the duty of every Sikh to strive in whatever manner they can to break the chains of physical emotional economic and political bondage and set free the Sikh Nation of Khalistan.
- Kulmit Singh Sangha Secretary The Sikh Federation of Edmonton urged the congregation to come out and make use of the available radio program to give free expression to their views. He called upon the Sikhs to uphold their dignity and not go to diplomats and agents of the Indian government begging for visas to visit India. Our martyrs made the supreme sacrifices for all of us the entire Sikh nation now it is up to us to uphold those principles and values.
