NEW DELHI: Ram Jethmalani has been approached by Sikh Jeaders to contest in the Deihi High Court the three life sentences passed by a special court on Akal Takht chief Ranjit Singh for the killing of Nirankan head Baba Gurbachan Singh,

Three Sikh leaders of Delhi, who held a joint press conference recently, demanded Ranjit Singh’s release and claimed “murder under provocation is remissible under the Indian Penal Code.” The leaders Kirpal Singh Sangatpuri, president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Aviar Singh Hit, president of the Delhi Siate Akali Dal (Badal), and Onkar Singh Thapar, president of Delhi State Akali Dal (Longowal) said an appeal against the special count judgment would be filed in the High Court before April 26 by SGPC lawyers and Ram Jethmalani would step in later to argue the case.

Thapar, Sangatpuri and Hit head the Sikh Grievances Action Committee, the apex body of Sikh social and religious organizations, at the press conference recently, the trio described three life sentences passed on Ranjit Singh as “most arbitrary, politically motivated and debatable.”
