WASHINGTON: Singh Sahib, Manjit Singh Jathedar of Akal Takhat, along with others will join political and business leaders, artists and intellectuals formal over the world in San Francisco to discuss the slate of the world, This conference is being organized by the Gorbachev Foundation and is titled “State of the World Forum” and will be chaired by the Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.
jathedar Manjit Singh will bone of the main speakers at one of the plenary sessions and will participate in four major workshops, He will share the stage on Friday with Korean President Kim Dae Jung, Maurice Strong, head of the U.N. Conference In Brazil and Gertrude Mongella, Secretary General of U.N. Conference on Women in Beijing, China this month.
The Gorbachev Foundation USA has already lined up any array of co-leaders for the five day conference, They include Vice-president Albert Gore, former USA President George Bush, former Prime Minister Margarct Thatcher of Britain, President Vacley Havel of Czech Republic, Nobel Peace Prize winners Archbishop Desmond Tulu and Rigoberta Menchu, cable TV magnate Ted Turner, Microsoft’s head Bill Gates, President Askar Akacy, President Oscar Arias, Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers, former Secretary of’ state James Baker and former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nanakasone.
The idea behind the forum from September 27 to October 1, 1995, is to “convene a conversation to look at fundamental priorities and values that the world should embrace as it moves beyond the cold war,” said Jim Garrison, the foundation’s president.
Organizers have also invited hundreds of participants from eight specific groups: senior states people, current political leaders, business executives, scientists, artists, intellectuals, spiritual leaders and youth, They, will participate in 20 small round tables that will examine everything from the future of the nation state to the problems of crime, pollution, new technologies, the rights of businesses and individuals, and the emerging new architecture of global security. Others who are also attending include, President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, ABC New’s Ted Koppel, novelist Isabel Allende, Author Deepak Chopra and Sam Keen, Explorer Thor Heyerdahl, Mario Cuomo, and) prominent political thinker in U.S, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Other persons invited from the Indian Subcontinent are Industrialists Raunaq Singh, the Godrej brothers, and the head of the International, Abid Hussein, head of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, K.S. Raju of Nagarjuna Fertilizers, and some members of parliament. Garrison and Gorbachev wants the exchange of ideas lo lead to creation of an informal brain trust that will) meet during the next several years They hope that this will “serve as 4 vehicle to bring together some of the world’s most thoughtful individuals to discuss the larger vision and global principles needed to replace the vacuum created by the ending of the cold war.”
