- Asia Watch in its report “Encounter in Pilibhit” dated September 29,1991 has provided gruesome details of how 10 unarmed Sikhs were killed at Pilibhit, a town in the state of Uttar Pradesh, on July 13, 1991. Asia watch concluded by saying that the killings in Pilibhit were not a isolated incidence. Examples of such summary executions of Sikh militants have become a routine in the state of Punjab. The Security forces in Punjab, under the authority of the Central Government of India, routinely engage in gross human rights violations in the name of fighting “terrorism”. Though the police in the state of Uttar Pradesh operate under the authority of the State Government yet it is clear that the same tolerance for lawlessness governs the Police practices as in the state of Punjab.
- Sikhs in Punjab are struggling actively for the last decade to secure their basic human rights including the right of self- determination as enshrined in the U N Charter of Human Rights. Punjab problem is not an internal problem of India; rather it is question of the survival of Sikh nation. Today a Sikh is killed not only because he is a Sikh, but what he believes in and what he stands for.
- In its latest report Punjab Human Rights Organization has reported that it regularly receives information of abductions and illegal detention of Sikhs at the hands of law-enforcement agencies on the mere suspicion of being the sympathizer of the Sikh militant groups advocating the formation of Khalistan. In some cases detainees were just killed by the police justifying their actions under the guise of escape or encounter with police.
- We appeal to the conscious of the free world and Western Democratic Countries to stop any trade with India until it recognizes Democratic rights of self-determination of the Sikhs and other minorities in India. We appeal to the people of free world not to let their tax money be given to India to kill its minorities.
