LUDHIANA: Most Sikh groups have expressed sympathy with Muslims in their hour of distress and have condemned the destruction of Babri masjid by the Indian fundamentalist government.

In a statement militants said that Muslim shrines would not remain safe unless Muslim masses struggle for an independent state of their own in U.P.

Akali leader Simranjit Singh Mann called for the dismissal of Prime Minister Rao for his government’s failure to stop Hindu fundamentalists from demolishing the Babri masjid. Congress (I) he said was hand in glove with B.J.P R.S.S.-V.H.P. combine and Raos connivance indulgence and support to the fanatics was no longer a secret. He asked the President to appoint someone as prime minister who enjoys the support of all sections of the public.

The Akali Dal (Badal) evidently felt embarrassed by reports that volunteers of its Delhi unit had joined the Ayodhya kar seva and had been a party to the destruction of the mosque. The damage to the party’s image was sought to be repaired by statements made by party functionaries in Punjab condemning the Ayodhya incidents.

The Babhar Akali Dal held the Central government as the chief culprit at Ayodhya.
