SACRAMENTO,CA: On Dec4, the homeless in Sacramento were provided free meals by the Cali fomia Sikh Foundation. Nearly 35 Sikh families participated in this charity act, Nearly 400 people were served hot meals at 1321 North C Street (Fishes and loaves) on a cold winter day to commemorate the Birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dey Ji which fell on Nov.29.
Dr.K.S.Sandhu, the President of the foundation said the foundation was established earlier this year with the objective of increasing interaction between Americans and Sikhs, educate Sikh children on Sikh history and organize charity functions to help the poor. AL present there are nearly 40 members of this foundation, which includes prominent Sikhs physicians, businessmen and professionals.
The food was served at “Fishes and Loaves” foundation building which allows its premises for be used for such charity work. It was through the efforts of Mr. Kawaljit Singh that the arrangements for the serving of food could be made with the organization.
The staff of Fishes and Loaves advised and guided the Sikh foundation volunteer workers on how to perform the service of cooking, serving and cleaning. Ms.Leilani, a coordinator, said, “the charity work by the Sikh Foundation was a wonderful way to serve the poor and we look forward to more such participants from your community in Sacramento,” De.N.S.Dhaliwal, Treasurer of the Foundation said, “we hope to Spread the message of our faith by more such interactive functions every year.” “Charity work and service is an integral part of our Religion,” he added.
