OBJECTIVES:

This demonstration, by the Sikh community of the New York-Tri State Area, is to protest the continued human rights violations against Sikhs in India. At this time when Rajiv Gandhi is addressing the United Nations General Assembly, the Sikhs of North America wish to remind the world community of the continued oppression of the Indian government in the state of Punjab where the following conditions have prevailed for the past several years:

  1. There is military rule by the Indian army.
  2. Foreign nationals are not allowed into Punjab, thereby preventing honest news reporting.
  3. Political prisoners continue to be taken and held without trail, some for as long as four years.

The Sikh Cultural Society New York appeals to every Sikh of New York-Tri State Area to make it a moral and religious duty to join the demonstration against the killer of the Sikhs the Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It is the time that we should demonstrate against the repression let boom by Indian Govt. against Sikhs. Do not forget that our United Voice and strength can save the lives of Sikh youth who are being killed in fake encounters.

The demonstration is sponsored by the Sikh Cultural Society in association with all the other gurdwaras in the area.
