CHICAGO: The Sikh Community of Metropolitan Chicago donated much needed blood to the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine Blood Bank to observe Thanksgiving on Nov.30. The event also coincided with the 9251 Birth Anniversary celebration of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism and the first of their 10 Gurus,
The blood drive was carried out at the Langar Hall of the Sikh Religious Society of Chicago Gurdwara in Palatine, Illinois with the help of ULL.C. Hospital crew and Dr. Surjit Patel between the hours of 8 am 2pm, over SO donors could be accommodated on four beds in that time period.
“I wish I was 17 Dad! I could donate blood too! ”said Simeren Kaur Mago a young teenager standing by her father’s bed watching him donate blood.
This Thanksgiving precious gift of life was coordinated by Gurpreet Kaur Padam of Sikh Students Society of U.LLC and Mohindenit Singh Saini a member of S.R.S.
