CHANDIGARH: The All India tennis association (AITA) on April 1st issued a show cause notice to Vijay Amritraj and decided to initiate “criminal and civil proceedings” against its former secretary P.L. Reddy and former treasurer Anil Jauhar.

Announcing these decisions to the AITA executive committee meeting held here on March 29, secretary of AITA R.K Khanna said at a press conference “if Amritraj fails to respond to the notice by April 18, he shall automatically stand suspended from playing in India.”

Khanna also released a statement listing seven charges against Mr. Amritraj.

He said the committee also authorised him to inform the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the association of tennis professionals (ATP) if Amritraj fails to respond to the notice.

The other decision was to initiate proceedings against two former executive members for “‘certain irregularities,” allegedly in accounts, Khanna said.

The charges against Amritraj are: his withdrawal from Davis Cup in May last year on health grounds and yet playing in tournaments in different countries at that time: endorsing of charges of financial irregularities by Jim Macacman is against Khanna, the then AITA secretary disturbing the schedule of matches in the first leg of satellite tournament in Madras this year by organizing an exhibition match without prior approval and statement last week criticising arrangements during the second and third leg of master satellite this year.
