JALANDHAR: The Shiromani Istri Akali Dal will field its candidates in the forthcoming general elections of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Disclosing this, Ms., Jagdish Kaur Savdhi, president of the: Shiromani Istri Akali Dal urged the union government to reserve 50% of the seats in the SGPC for women. She also advocated for the reduction of the minimum age limit for casting votes to 18 years, Dr. Inderjit Kaur Jammu, chairperson of the dal flayed the government’s stand for not allowing the Akali Dal (B) to proceed with its proposed protest march and described the detention of the Akali Dal (B) chief, Parkash Singh Badal and other Akali leaders as undemocratic. She also urged the National Human Rights Commission to intervene in the matter to get the Akali leaders released. ‘The women leaders denied alignment with Akali Dal (B) and Akali Dal (A). They said that though theirs was an independent organization, they will stand by the faction that will fight for the cause of Punjab and Punjabi at.
Lashing out at Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh the Shiromani Istri Akali Dal leaders accused him of being dictatorial. They also leveled charges of corruption on the present government in Punjab. The Shiromani Istri Akali Dal will also submit a memorandum to the Punjab Government demanding its dismissal for its alleged high handedness and corrupt practices, disclosed the women leaders.
