VISAKHAPATNAM: Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar warned that any attempt by the militants to destroy the unity of the country would be severely dealt with. Launching the Samajwadi Janata Party’s poll campaign in Andhra Pradesh Chandra Shekhar criticized as “unfair Cong-I President Rajiv Gandhi’s statement that Punjab would secede if militants won the elections. Stating that the Punjab and Kashmir problems were created by the “majority” governments led by late Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi he said his government had ordered elections in Punjab as everyone had the right to exercise franchise.

Chandra Shekhar who was ac-~ companied by commerce minister Subramaniam Swamy was received on his arrival by a large number of his party workers and the city mayor D VY Subba.

The prime minister during his one-day whirlwind tour will address public meetings at various places.
