NEW DELHI: Indian premier ‘Chandra Shekhar said the government would firmly tackle the internal problems of the country and ‘warned those who spoke of calling in foreign forces in India.
Without making any direct reference to Imam Syed Abdullah Bukhari, the prime minister said no one can come from outside and solve the problems of this country. ‘Those who talk of calling foreign troops are mistaken and such kind of talk will not be tolerated. The: problems of the country will be solved by the government.
‘The lmam of Delhi’s Jama Masid had recently called for the stationing of United Nations peace Keeping forces in the riot it areas of the country.
Chandra Shekhar was speaking nonpolitical organisations to felicitate him.
Chandra Shekhar said some vested interests were seeking to divide India on religious grounds.
They have thrown a challenge before the nation and this challenge has to be countered tooth ‘and nail by all citizens”, he said.
Referring to the outbursts of ‘communal violence in the country, ‘Chandra Shekhar said, those who ‘instead such riots would not be forgiven by, history. He warned persons Indulging in’ communal violence and said they should desist from such activity,
“The prime minister said no religion taught people to kill each other Communal amity, he Said was the comer stone of India’s heritage.
He said the tasks of eradicating poverty and fighting hunger were stupendous and if all energy was spent in resolving communal tensions, these problems would remain unsolved.
‘Chandra Shekhar said he was not promising that “rivers of milk ‘would flow” in the country, but that the government would make every effort to remove the social inequities and abysmal poverty.
