BOMBAY (PTI): The defence minister Sharad Pawar was formally elected leader of the Maharashtra Congress1 Legislature Party (CLP) at a meeting held March 5.

The outgoing chief minister Sudhakararao Naik moved a resolution proposing Pawar’s name, which was seconded by ministers including finance minister Ramrao Adik. The resolution was passed unanimously.

Pawar would be sworn in as the new chief minister along with a few ministers here Saturday.

Addressing the gathering after his election, Pawar said his ministry would initially be small and be expanded after the forthcoming budget session of the state assembly.

He hinted that the start of the session might be delayed by about five days. The session could also be curtailed in view of the severe water scarcity in many parts of the: State.
