AMRITSAR: On an investigative report by Principal Gurmukh Singh Head Sikh Reference Library SGPC Amritsar that S Pashaura Singh in his Ph.D. Presented at the Toronto University Canada has committed blasphemy the Dharam Padhar committee of the SGPC appointed Sub Committee of Gurmat scholars to look into and consider the issue of blasphemy. Since the matter was serious the SGPC decided that pending the report of the above Sub Committee the Sikh Sangats world over and the Gurdwara’s should buyout and not extend any cooperation to S. Pashaura Singh what-so-ever.
The Members of the above Sub Committee after careful study of the thesis of S. Pashaura Singh and the other background material supplied to them unanimously recommended the following at their meeting of Nov.23, 1992.
a) That is pursuance of the Direction of Akal Takht Amritsar S.Pashaura Singh should appear before it or give a statement and face its verdict on the charges of blasphemy committed by him.
b) That after consultation with legal experts SGPC should initiate action under the Law against all the offenders.
c) That until the final decision, the interim action of the SGPC, should continue.
Besides the above, the Sub Committee has also recommended the setting up of a Standing Committee of Gurmat scholar with a view to monitoring and taking timely preventive action to avoid in the future any subversive attack on the Sikh Gurus and Gurmat. This statement is signed by secretary of SGPC.
