CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief BS.Sibia Wednesday constituted a 31-member joint action committee of representatives of various organizations who attended the Aug.11 and Sept.1 conclaves at Anandpur Sahib.
The joint action committee Sibia said would announce programs from time to time to fight State repression.
The first program of the committee was to organize rallies and processions at district headquarters’ beginning from Ludhiana The rallies and programs would be conducted under the aegis of Guru Granth Sahibas no leader would preside over these.
The Ludhiana rally-cum-procession would be organized on Sept.24. To finalize details about the revenue of the rally and the route of the procession the first meeting of the joint action committee would be held at Gurdwara Akajarh Sahib in Ludhiana on Sept.18 at 1 p.m. All SGPC members from Ludhiana would attend the meeting.
Sibia said the date ‘for rallies and processions of other district headquarters would be announced after the Sept.18 meeting.
During the processions to be taken at each district headquarters the participants would only recite “shloks’ from Gurban No slogans would be permitted. The processions would culminate into rallies.
Sibia said an endeavor has been made to accommodate leaders of each and every organization which attended the Anandpur Sahib conclaves.
Since an assurance was given by the representatives of Shiromani Akali Dal (Mann) that there was no boycott of the conclave either by their party or organizations like AISSF Damdami Tasal Dal ((Baba) and Panthic Committee (Manochahal) representatives of these organizations have been included on the action committee Sibia appeared to all those organizations which did not attend the Anandpur Sahib conclaves to extend their fullest cooperation to the JAC in fighting “state repression”
Anti-repression cells had been set up at SGPC complex in Amritsar where all complaints of “state repression” would be processed and recorded. A sub office of the cell would function at the SGPC officer here.
Sibia announced that the bhog ceremony of Bhai Balwinder Singh Jattana and his family and Bhai Charanjit Singh Chana would be organized at Gurdwara Bhata Sahib in Ropar district on Sept.17 where purses of Rs 5100 each would be presented to the bereaved families.
Referring to the Akal Takht and Jathendar and ‘kar seva’ of Akali Takht Sibia said no final decision had been taken on them. It was the SGPC’s long-standing demand to the government to conduct its general house elections which were long overdue.
Sibia clarified that the SGPC was not consulted on the constitution of the Gurdwara Nanded Sahib Board in Maharashtra. He welcomed the Religious Places Protection Act and demanded that the Pakistan Government should enact a similar Act to protect 188 Sikh shrines left there
