AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Panthic Committee has decided to boycott he forthcoming assembly and parliamentary elections in Punjab.
Ina joint statement here Tuesday Bhai Kanwar Singh Bhai Jagbir Singh Anandpuri Babbar Kulbur Singh Bhai Gurbir Singh and Bhai Gurbax Singh said the union government wanted to weaken Sikhs by ordering elections in Punjab.
“The Panthic organizations should unite to carry on their struggle under the guidance of Akali Takht and foil the nefarious designs of the government. The six organizations which recently decided to boycott the elections should stick to their decision.
They clarified that the ideological fight was also essential along with the armed struggle All militant outfits should untidily fight the government.
Meanwhile the Babbar Sikh Vidyarth Jathebandi has given 3 call for Punjab bandh on February 19 and to boycott the state assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the state on that day.
Addressing a joint press conference here Tuesday the vice-president Balwinder Singh the office secretary Jermanjit Singh and the press secretary Baljit Singh said the federation had no faith in the Constitution.
A move is under way to get an appeal issued to Sikhs from Akal Takht to boycott the forthcoming elections in Punjab.
According to information received here an emissary of the AkaliDal (Badal) is in Delhi to get the signature of Ranjit Singh Jathedar of Akal Takht on the appeal.
Ranjit Singh is lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with the murder of Nirankari Chief Baba Curbachan Singh.
Ranjit Singh was appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht by the SGPC after removing Jasbir Singh rode from the post.
It is not yet known whether the emissary succeeded in getting the signature of Ranjit Singh or not. AkaliDals led by Badal Simran Singh Mann and Baba Joginder Singh. However no resolution was passed:
