Carefully crafted and intelligently penned, journalist K. Govindan Kutty’s book, “Seshan; An Intimate Story” (Konark, Rs 250) is certain to raise another political Storm, more for what it insinuates than for whatit actually says, writes The Hindustan Times.

The revealing aspect the racy manuscripts that its central theme appears to be Rajivbashing. Several juicy innuendos are made shout the former Prime Minister who was largely responsible for Seshan acquiring his current larger than life image.

Three episodes mentioned in the book which was released Oct.17 are bound to spur immense controversy. Already, the observation about DMK founder C.N, Annadural having unknowingly become “an effective plaything of Americas intelligence machinery (GIA)” has resulted in a storm of protest in Tamil Nadu, The new revelations: First, the book claims that Rajiv Gandhi had seriously toyed with the idea of propping up Subramaniam Swammy as Prime Minister after the collapse of the V.P. Singh Government, since he did not like “that bearded fellow” (Chandra Shekhar). According to Kutty, it was Seshan who stalled it. Second, the book gives dark hints: of the Rajghat murder attempt on Rajiv Gandhi being more than what meets the eye. Apparently, Scshan came to some “disturbing conclusions” after investigating the Matter, because, according to the author, the “stupidity” of the assailant could even suggest “semiofficial sponsorship.” Third, the book insinuates that in the face of a mounting and increasingly credible Opposition campaign on the Bofors issue and conspiracies from Bashtrapati Bhavan, Rajiv Gandhi even contemplated going to war with Pakistan. Although this highly sensitive subject is not discussed in detail, it appears that Seshan was privy to a Jot more than what he has chosen to reveal. The hints, however, are significant enough.
