MADURAL: The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) reiterated that creation of an “independent Eelam” was the only ethnic crisis in neighboring Sri Lanka.
The party manifesto, released at the special one day election manifesto here, emphatically said that “Tamil Eelam” alone would solve the problems of the Tamils in the island nation, It also promised to work for the retrieval of the Katchativu Island, coded to Sri Lanka, Releasing the manifesto, party general secretary Gopalasamy declared to seize the “illegal wealth” amassed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha and her party men if the MDMK was voted to power in the State. He deplored the rampant corruption, lockup deaths and rape in custody prevalent in the State. The manifesto stressed the need to reorganize the State police force.
Pledging to remove the Narasimha Rao Government at the Center and the Jayalalitha Government in Tamil Nadu. It said the present state of at fairs had resulted in the loss of public confidence in democratic institutions.
Reiterating demands for State autonomy and scrapping of Article 356 of the Constitution, the party said it would strive for social justice and the welfare of SCs, STs, and BCs.
