NEW DELHI, India: Gandhi’s Chief Security Officer, his uncle and additional police commissioner Gautam Kaul, and four other officers have been suspended amid a furore over Karmajit’s ability to penetrate the Prime Minister’s security ring.

Police have issued no details of the interrogation, but press reports said Karamjit hid in a bush for several days at the open air site ‘where the attack took place, and ‘was not found despite searches by hundreds of police and security guards before and after Rajiv arrived.

Army Commandos and elite frontier guards would soon be brought back to form the inner security ring around Gandhi replacing the special protection group (SPG) formed after his mother’s assassination the Press ‘Trust of India (PTI) said.

The SPG, nicknamed Black Cats for their black combat uniforms, was formed from several security units; It was intended to take over protection of VIPs across the country from a variety of security and police forces.
