RESNO, CA: Ker Sekhon, a promising 15-year-old Sikh school student from Modesto California, won the Junior (18 and under) 12 gauge event at the 1986 zone 7 Skeet Shooting Championship held last week at the Fresno County Gun Club. Kern smashed 97 of 100 targets.

The championship was sponsored by the National Skeet Shooting Association. Zone 7 includes 13 Western States and a Canadian State bordering one of the Zone States.

In skeet shooting, targets fly at 60 per hour and the competitor is required to shoot two targets released simultaneously from opposite directions.

Kern has been shooting skeet for the last two years, His aim is to represent the United States in the ‘Olympics someday, He practices three times a week at Waterloo Gun Club, Stockton California He gets his coaching from his father, Mr. Devinder Singh Sekhon, and shoots over 10,000 shells a year, His father is also an ace skeet shooter. Skeet shooting is a sport that requires extremely fast reflexes combined with a cool disposition

Sekhon hail from Ganga Nagar, a Rajasthan District bordering Punjab. They belong to a highly respected and politically influential family. Kern’s grand-father was a dedicated Sikh and served as Minister in the Rajasthan Cabinet for one term.
