AMRITSAR: The Punjab Government recently handed over the entire gold and currency seized from the Golden Temple complex during the “Operation Black Thunder” in 1988 to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) here on Wednesday.
Earlier the Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh, on the request of the SGPC ordered the district administration to hand over the entire gold plated sheets, and gold ornaments and currency a part of the “offerings” which are lying in safe custody under the joint seal of the SGPC and the government in a room in “darshani deori” in the Golden Temple complex. Bir Inder Pal Singh Kahlon, additional deputy commissioner Tarn Taran sub division, on behalf of the government handed over the keys of the room to Major Singh Uboke, acting president of the SGPC, in the presence of Harjinder Singh Khalsa, secretary of the SGPC, Rajwinder Singh, manager Golden Temple, Baba Darshan Singh and Baba Gajan Singh of Damdami Taksal.
The seized gold which was handed over to the SGPC includes 27 gold-plated sheets of different sizes meant for use in the incomplete building of the Akal Takht and gold ornaments weighing 664 grams.
