From News Dispaches CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government has decided to further strengthen the security of political leaders and other vulnerable sections in view of the recent spurt in terrorist activity.
In May alone, nearly 90 persons including 10 policemen have been killed by terrorists while the number of terrorist killed in 53.
Official sources said terrorist had stepped up their activity as they were under “tremendous” pressure. The Governor, S.S. Ray had stated a few days ago that the fight against terrorism had reached a “decisive stage.”
The Government will also ensure that security is intensified in terrorist affected areas to protect “soft” targets. This is being done immediately in 16 police station areas in Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur districts.
