NEW DELHI (PTI): The Indian government is contemplating sending senior and field officers of the security forces abroad to familiarize them in human rights issue. Stating this during his valedictory address at the border security force annual training conference here recently, home secretary Padmanabhaiah said the Indian approach on this issue was put Across before various human rights Organizations during his visit to Geneva to attend an international Conference. ” At the opening of the three-day conference home minister S. B. ‘Chavan stressed the issue of human rights while the national human rights commission chief, justice Ranganath Mishra, suggested perceptional change and reorien4ation in training methods keeping in view human nights.
The home secretary also said in view of the changed scenario, the objective of BSF was gradually changing and congratulated the force for its performance in checking trans-border crimes, fighting militancy and in tackling insurgency.
Padmanabhaiah also suggested that the BSF should exploit the possibility of sharing of intelligence with local police. However, the home secretary said
in view of the present scenario in the country, it may not be feasible to spare more force for conduct of regular collective training In fact, he said, the deployment of the force may be stretched since there was a campaign by the militants Lo step up infiltration in the Kashmir valley.
