SRINAGAR: The Army and Border Security Force (BSF) on Oct10 laid siege on Kashmir University and the Regional Engineering College (REC) at Hazratbal here. Three persons were killed in the search operations.
The police said a militant attacked a BSF squad outside the REC, causing injuries to six Jawans. The BSF retaliated by gunning down three persons, among them two brothers.
The College students are stated to have attacked the security forces personnel earlier when provoked by acts of desecration by Armed Forces personal.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (IKLF) told press reports that the security forces had desecrated the Hazratbal shrine, Situated between the two campuses. In a press release, it said the security forces also beat up pilgrims at the shrine; it has called for an indefinite general strike from Monday in protest.
