Fremont CA: A Sea of Black Flags and Banners commemorating the torture victims and martyrs of the Sikh Struggle greeted parade participants on Sunday Aug 14, at the Alvarado Niles and Western Ave. Center. Hundreds of Indian Americans met thousands of Sikh protestors shouting Slogans like “India out of Khalistan, Khalistan Zindabad! And Down with India.”
Parade participants were shocked into silence by the out- pouring of Sikh emotions and many of them held up the two fingered peace sign as they passed the colorful mass of turbans. Police tried to contain the autos of protestors but were unable to hold back the peaceful crowd who infiltrated the traffic.
The demonstration was called by the Northern Ca, Gurdwaras and they were joined by the Interntl. Sikh Youth Fed., Babbar Khalsa Intntl., Sikh Youth of America and Council of Khalistan members. After the parade and protest the sangat retired to the Fremont Gurdwara for tea and langar where the management voiced its appreciation for the participation of Sikhs from all over California.
