New Delhi,(PTI) the agitation sparked off by the recent remarks of the pro-vice chancellor professor mushir-al-hasan of the jamia milia university here suggesting the lifting of the ban on the book +the satanic verses+ still continues, despite his clarification that it was not his intention to hurt any body’s religious sentiments, The remarks had recently led to a section of the students resorting to agitation, demanding the immediate dismissal of the professor, and the subsequent closure of the university by the vice-chancellor.

Earlier professor Mushir-al hasan had said in an interview to a weekly that though he shared the indignation of the Muslim community and condemns Rushdie for offending the sensibilities of a large section of this community, the ban be lifted as it does not justify intellectual freedom of expression,

When the authorities refused to accept the students demand they allegedly indulged in untoward and unsavory incidents, including misbehavior with two female teachers of the English department.
