LUCKNOW: Janata Dal leader Sanjay Singh received gunshot injuries when opposition and ruling Congress (I) party workers on Wednesday clashed and exchanged fire in the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
A Congress Party spokesman here alleged that the clash took place when Janata Dal workers attempted to capture a polling booth and when resisted by the Congress (I) supporters, the Da! Activists opened fire. The Congress (I) workers opened fire in retaliation it was claimed.
But L.C. Jain eminent social worker and a Magsavsay Award winner campaigning for the Dal’s parliamentary nominee, Rajmo han Gandhi, said that according to his information the shooting took place at village Bhushiyanwa, about 10 km from Singh’s house in Amethi, as Singh was going to his polling booth in a convoy he was surrounded by Congress (I) activists and was shot, Jain said when contacted,
The condition of Sanjay Singh who received bullet injuries during election violence continued to improve.
