NEW DELHI, India: Mr. Harmandir Singh Sandhu, General Secretary of the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) in Jodhpur jail, has appealed to Mr. Darshan Singh, acting head of the Akal Takht, to invite Baba Joginder Singh, Baba Thakur Singh, Panthic Committee, AISSF, and other important Sikh organizations to give an ultimatum to the Governments to stop false police encounters.
If the government continued with its present policy, a Sarbat Khalsa should be called and “our ultimate object should be made clear, so that Sikhs could seek help from friendly countries.”
Ina signed statement sent to this paper. Mr. Sandhu said killing of youth in false encounters was a challenge to the Sikhs and was more important than the release of Jodhpur detainees. This serious challenge has been ignored because of infighting among the Sikh organizations, he said.
Mr. Sandhu said that there should be no controversy over the appointment of Mr. Darshan Singh as the acting chief of the Akal Takht as it had ‘been approved by the Damdami Taksal. He said Mr. Darshan Singh would officiate till Mr. Jasbir Singh, who was appointed the Jathedar of the Akal Takht is released from jail.
Mr. Sandhu also accused the Centre of genocide of Sikhs through fake encounters.
