FRESNO: The importance of a Strong media to publish the Sikh Point Of view was the topic of discussion at a fundraiser for W.S.N, on Sept.12 at Fresno’s Ramada Inn. 100 people attended the event where support and Suggestions were offered by some of the Fresno area’s most prominent Sikh business people.
The Pen is mightier than the sword,” quoted Dr Mohinder Singh Poonia as he spoke of the necessity for the press. There is TV, radio and other sophisticated media but the Press is something simple that most everyone can understand and afford. Balancing his call for more support with his well thought out critical comments he made constructive suggestions to W.S.N.
Noting that balanced news reports and tolerance for opposing views were hallmarks of a professional media he urged that W.S.N. avoid direct affiliations and seek the participation of the community at all levels. Recognizing that a lack of marketing was hurting WSN he urged the Sikh community at large to advertise and subscribe and to get family and friends to do the same.
Representing the staff, WSN’s manager told the group that a strong media was necessary for a successful fight. No culture, religion or political movement can survive long without the press.” It becomes the voice of the present and of the history of a movement. “The Sikhs need a strong media to express their position yet it is true that a program of political ideology faces lots of problems since it is often not easy to find support.” For this reason our patriots are most appreciated by those at W.S.N,
The Business end of W.S.N. was covered by Mr. Narinder $.Somal who explained the constitution of the paper and Dr. Gurinder S.Grewal who as Editor-in-Chief represented the views of the editorial board.
- Gurcharan Singh Dhillon (WSO) related the sad tale of the looting of Punjab and told of the atrocities committed by the security forces.
The audience was fortunate to hear the heartfelt and dramatic presentations of poetry from the many talented individuals in their midst, including; Dr. Gurcharan Singh Chann, Captain G.S. Gill, Dr.H.S Shergill, Dr.Poonia, Dr. Kuldeep S. Bahniwal, Mrs.(Guddi) Sidhu, S. Mohinder S. Grewal, and the lovely singing of Ms. Kricka Renu.
The event was organized by the brothers S. Avtar Singh Gill and S. Harinder Singh Gill of Gill Insurance Agency, Caruthers, The WSN staff and management appreciate the considerable efforts and thanks also to Dr.Chann and Mr.Sohan S.Sufi.
