CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh police headed by S.S.P. Saini has adopted a unique method of preventing people from giving shelter to militants He simply asks his force to evict the inmates and occupy the house. Even women and children are thrown out mostly at night.

Thus the two minor children of Bhai Sukhdev Singh a transporter of Mohali along with their mother and sister were beaten up and evicted from their own house at night and locked up the house. Later the police denied having evicted or locked up the house. The police however insisted that the family gave shelter to militants but no such cases had been registered against any member of the family.

Interestingly the Chandigarh police have no jurisdiction over Mohali which is in Ropar district of Punjab. But the Govt of India has informally allowed SSP Saini to do whatever he thinks appropriate to deal with what it calls terrorism
