Sacra MENTO,CA: Past experience in regards to the work and election or selection of members of Board of Directors of Sacramento Sikh Society, a nonprofit organization registered under Ca. Corp. No.1626813-SS75, reflects that the existing Bi-Laws are Non-Democratic with much less almost no rights to and representation of general public members to have the opportunity to serve the Sadh Sangat as members of Managing Committee or Board of Directors.

We as members of Sadh Sangat of Sacramento Sikh Society, recommend and approve of the necessary amendments to be made in the related Articles and Sections of the Bi-Laws governing Sacramento Sikh Society, to make it more democratic, as follows;

1) Any person man/woman has full right and/can become a voter member, if he/she a) believes in Sikh Faith and Guruship of SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI.

  1. b) is at least 18 years of age on the date of completing and signing membership form. c) is a permanent resident of U.S. and lives in Sacramento vicinity with the exception of the existing founder members already on the board list.
  2. d) deposits a non refundable membership fee of $5.00 at the time of submitting membership form.

2) Any person can contest the election for a member of Board of Directors, if he/ she

  1. a) is a voter member.
  2. b) has been living in the Sac. area for at least one year at the time of filing nomination with a verifiable proof.
  3. c) deposits a non refundable additional membership fee of $250.00 along with the nomination form.

3) Every nomination must be signed by at least five voter members. No voter member can sign more than two nominations same time.

4) Election commission consisting of $ qualified persons be selected out of well respected senior members of the community locally, who will be a) impartial and non voter members. b) acceptable to the general public at a general meeting called at least two months prior to the election date. c) in full authority and responsibility to make rules and regulations to conduct fair and safe elections and hand over the charge to the respective newly elected office bearers.

5) Term of each of the members elected) at the time of/general election, will be two years only and will start on Jan.1 and end on Dec 31, the closing date of fiscal year of the Society.

6) Elected member can contest only once more after four years from the end of his previous term.
