SACRAMENTO.CA: The Gurdwara Sahib of Evergreen Ave. celebrated the laying of the foundation for their new gurdwara March 23-25. Beginning with the Bhog on Thursday and ending two days later with Kirtan, Katha and remarks from Community leaders, the event was a fantastic success.

As a parade graced the streets of Sacramento led by the five blessed ones (Panj Piaras) and two Gursikhs carrying the Nishan Sahib (flag) Sikhs from throughout Northern California came to offer their support for the new Gurdwara.

Members of the Sangat were honored by the presence of political leaders and representatives of the California Capital City. Assemblyman PhilIssenberg spoke glowingly of the great contribution that the Sikhs and the gurdwara have made both to Sacramento and the state of California. The Gurdwara hall has been used extensively by the Red Cross as a “sewa” station during national disasters and times of community need.

Most appreciated by the Sangat was the Parshad & Langar, courtesy of the Chahal family. The many guests were honored by the Jathas of Bhai Manjit Singh and Bhai Gurcharan Singh Rasia. Famous Punjabi singer, Bibi Narinder Kaur Biba also performed. The program ended at 2:30 Saturday with remarks from Sardar Jagjit Singh Gill of Chowchilla. The management committee, trustees and officers have expressed their appreciation for the dedication of the Sangat and wishes to let the greater community know that both prayers and donations for the advancement of the Gurdwara are needed.
