PATIALA, Punjab, India: The Executive Committee of S.G.P.C. which met at Patiala considered the resignation of Prof. Darshan Singh which he submitted at Fatehgarh Sahib on November 17, in the meeting of religious saints on the eve of the proposed march to Delhi. Since then the S.G.P.C. Executive has not met for this purpose and the issue was lingering on. Sources close to Akali Dal were of the opinion that two hurdles were standing in the way of any decision on this sensitive issue. First, there were two executives of the S.G.P.C. one led by Gurcharan Singh Tohra and the other by Harcharan Singh Hudara. So far, the government has not notified the election. Hence nobody knows which the legal and constitutional executive committee is. In view of the present situation no executive could take decision on this issue.
The other question relates to the nomination of his successor in case his resignation is accepted. So for the committee has not taken any final decision and is trying to persuade Prof. Darshan Singh to withdraw his resignation. However, much significance is being attached to the advice of PS. Badal that had large number of supporters in S.G.P.C.
