Chandigarh — G. S. Tohra, Beant Shromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee, was released after nearly ten months of detention. He had surrendered to the Indian army when it stormed the Golden Temple in June, 1984. Mr. Tohra’s surrender had angered the Sikh masses and the suspicion that the army invaded the Temple only after the government received a covert or overt nod from him still runs strong in the minds of the people.

Akali Dal President, Sant Harchand Singh Longowal was released earlier. His attempt to influence the Sikh masses has not cut much ice with them. Sources feel that Tohra has been released to strengthen the hands of Longowal. Mr. Prakash Singh Badal, former Punjab Chief Minister, has not been released. He will be released when these two leaders fail in their mission.
