JOHANNESBURG: (AFP)-South Africa’s spring book cricketers may be given a one-off Test against England at Lord’s in 1992.
The Johannesburg Star reported that England’s Test and County Cricket Board is keen to stage a money-spinning Test after a five-Test tour by Pakistan next year and that the Springboks are being seen as logical choices.
The Test would depend on South Africa being readmitted to world cricket by the International Cricket Conference (ICC) when it meets on July 8.
The ICC meeting comes just nine days after the white-led South African Cricket Union (SACU) and the Anti-Apartheid South African Cricket Board merge under the non-racial federation, the United Cricket Board of South Africa.
The merger is a key requirement for remittance to the world arena,
England, Australia and the West Indies have indicated that they will give South Africa the nod in July but the decision rests with the other ICC countries Pakistan, New Zealand, India and Sri Lanka.
