MOSCOW: In his most definitive statement about American war Prisoners, the Russian co-chairman of a bilateral commission said Sept.22 that no U.S. POWs are alive in Russia.
But the Russians promised to hand over information on two Americans reportedly executed on espionage charges during the Cold War, including information on where one is buried.
Such evidence would mark a breakthrough for the commission, which so far has turned up little information on Soviet-held American POWs. Earlier this year, President Boris Yeltsin caused a sensation when he said it was possible some American servicemen might be alive on Russia soil.
