The son of Zaildar Udham Singh Mahal. He was born in a section of India which is now in Pakistan. He was born in chuck 136, district Sargodha, Punjab. In 1947 after the partition of India they migrated from chuck 136 to a village, near their ancestral village MahalGailha, named Khamachon, near Banga, in district Jullundur. He graduated from high school in MahalGailha and went to Lyallpur Khalsa College in Jullundur,

In 1955 he came to the U.S. as an immigrant and worked as a farm laborer in the Mendota area. In 1956 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent much of his service time in Berlin, Germany. In 1958 he received an honorable discharge along with an expert rifle, good conduct and army expedition medals. After his discharge he held odd jobs in California until 1960. When he went back to India. He was married in 1961 to Mohinder Kaur Gill of Moga.

He came back to the U.S. along with his wife later the same year and’ in 1962 they were blessed with a son, Ravinder Singh Mahal. Shortly thereafter he got a job with the State of California and in 1966 they were blessed again, this time with a daughter, Sohindra Kaur Mahal. While working for the state he obtained his real estate salesman license. In 1973 after working for the state for about 10 years, he decided that instead of working for the state he should get into his own business and opened a liquor store in Antioch, California. In 1980 after running a successful liquor store for about 7 years he decided to sell the store to his brother and opened a night club, named The White Elephant Lounge, in Modesto, California. This is where he presently resides with his family.
