HYDERABAD: Indian doctors specializing in radiology would not be required to pass an entrance test in future, if the proposal of the Royal College of Radiology, U K, to dispense with this test materializes.

A high-level team from the royal College of Radiology, led by its president, Dr J O M C Craig, which was here to attend the 43rd annual congress of Indian radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) has agreed to form an Indian chapter of the Royal, in the country.

Speaking at a meeting of the IRIA Saturday evening, held in the presence of the union minister of state for science and technology, Prof MG K Menon, Dr Craig said the Indian chapter’s governing board would consist of five member’s sirawn from the five zones of the country.

On the recommendation made by the governing board, a medical student from India intending to specialize in radiology and imaging, could gain admission in any of the leading training institutes in the world.

The team from the Royal College also agreed to have an oration by a leading Indian radiologist at their annual meetings, dealing with a subject that would be of interest in this part of the world.

The British team invited the president of the IRIA, Major General S K Dhawan, to their annual meeting to be held in September next. This would facilitate continuous updating and exchange. Of knowledge between the members of the Royal College and the Indian radiologists.

To strengthen these exchanges, IRIA would invite eminent teachers from Britain with the assistance of the British high commission in India to conduct teacher programmers, workshops and seminars.

At present, the post-graduate degrees in radiology awarded by the Indian universities were not recognized in England. To overcome this, the team from the Royal College would study the detailed curriculum which would be supplied by the IRIA and explore the possibility of taking suitable measures to accord recognition to degrees awarded by the Indian universities, a release said.
