Sir,
Balwant Singh started his career as a petty clerk and later became a block development officer in Punjab, finally ending up as a Finance Minister in the Punjab Government, It is reported that he amassed a lot of wealth by corrupt and questionable means. He became a business man not only at home in Punjab and India but also abroad in the Middle East with the help of Government contacts, contracts and influence.
It has been reported not only in the esteemed columns of World Sikh News but also other papers that the successors of the co-architect of ill-fated Rajiv Longowal accord would not be able to enjoy the immense wealth he had amassed,
Balwant Singh due to his manipulative nature, Machiavellian character did not enjoy any respect with the masses in general and Sikhs in particular. Like “the British who have never had permanent friends or permanent enemies, but Permanent interests,” in the words of great 20th century French General Charles DeGaule, the late Finance Minister also had similar traits in his character. He was a Congressman or an Akali whenever it suited him or his interests,
I, personally and on behalf of Sikh Nation, advise Sardarni Gurdip Kaur and Sardar Rajanbir Singh his son and others who have any interests whatsoever in the inheritance left behind by S. Balwant Singh to place all the assets at the disposal of the Khalsa Panth for the help and welfare of the families of the Sikh freedom fighters killed by the Hindu India’s security forces in fake encounter in the ongoing struggle for the liberation of Khalistan. Those similarly situated as late S. Balwant Singh should also draw lessons from his fate and turn over their assets also to the Khalsa Panth so that widows and children of Sikh martyrs may be adequately provided for with the basic necessities of life.
Amarjit Singh Buttar
Director of Public Relations Council of Khalistan
