NEW DELHI: The opposition in the Lok Sabha Friday persisted with its demand for restoration of full subsidy for fertilizers that the Finance Minister slashed in the annual budget proposed for this year.

Resuming the debate on demands for grants of the ministries of agriculture food and rural development V S Rao (Telugu Desam Party) urged the government not to stand on false prestige on the fertilizer subsidy issue.

Different rates in the price of fertilizers would only lead to corruption and would not benefit small and marginal farmers who constituted 75% of the farming community but possessed only 25% of land he said.
