UNITED NATIONS: The 51 member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) have decided to make “coordinated efforts” in the current session of the UN General Assembly for adoption of a resolution asking for United Nations investigations into alleged “human rights violations” in Kashmir. A Pakistani sponsored resolution circulated among the members calls on the United Nations Commission on Human Rights to send a fact-finding mission to “investigate and report” on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. It also expressed “grave concern” over “gross and constant violations” of human rights in the state.
A communique issued by OIC after annual coordination meeting of the foreign ministers said the decision for coordinated efforts was taken in view of “grave humanitarian situation” prevailing in the state. But it was not immediately clear whether the resolution would undergo any changes before it ts brought before the 1#4member assembly.
