GURDASPUR: Ripped by a fear ‘of plague, residents of this border town have gone on a rat killing Spree, littering the lanes and by lanes with dead rodents while the municipal authorities remain Silent spectators.

The residents virtually began their anti-rat Campaign on Friday, and just 24 hours later they poisoned to death many a rat.

The dead rodents could be seen strewn about almost everywhere in the town, threatening with dreaded disease, the very people ‘who have been trying to ward off the plague threat.

Despite several agitations in the past, the municipal authorities have refused to shift the site of the refuse dump located near the rear boundary wall of the government civil hospital on Library road. Across the road is situated DAV High School whose students are daily exposed to swarms of fleas and stink which emanates from the dump.

The hospital staff, too, has added 1o woes of the people by dumping used dressings, syringes and bottles on the rear sides of the new outpatient department (OPD) building.
