OTTAWA: Reform Pany MP Elwin Herman son refused to give consent to NDP MP Svend Robinson’s motion last Friday calling for the Royal Canadian Legion to reconsider its recent decision to bar Wearing of turbans in Legion Halls.
Robinson’s motion also urged the Legion to respect the fundamental principle of religious freedom in Canada and permit equal access to all members including those wearing religious headgear.
The motion was supported by Liberal and Bloc Quebecois MPs in the House of Commons.
In explaining his action the Reform MP claimed that Robinson should have given prior notice to the motion so that the House might give due consideration to the matter.
