NEW YORK, NY: The new Indian government is to reduce the number of over two dozen intelligence agents in the United States, according to an ethnic tabloid published here.

The national front government would reduce the number of intelligence agents in the US in “unique gesture of friendship, News India reported.

The Research and Analysis Wing, the main external intelligence agency of India, currently has five agents in New York, at least the same number in California and other major areas of the US, as well as over a dozen in Washing ton DC, the paper reported adding that most of them served in the capacity of cultural, scientific, or visa officers capacity.

“The huge Indian intelligence apparatus was in line with the policies of former prime ministers Jawaharial Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, all of whom were known for their pro Soviet inclinations,” the paper reported.

Rajiv Gandhi’s regime in India was severely embarrassed when Canadian newspapers published reports the three of its agents were asked to leave Canada for indulging in activities” incompatible with their diplomatic status.” The revelations of the wrong doings of these agents were documented in the book Soft.
