CHRISTCHURCH Reckless and rash play by the Indian batsmen let the ship singk near the shore as Australia snatched a 18-run victory with five overs to spare in the second game of the triangular one-day contest at the Lancaster park here on March 3rd.
‘After restricting the world champions, who elected to bat, to a modest 187 for nine wickets off 50 overs, the Indian batsmen, particularly accomplished stars Dilip Vengsarkar (35) unimaginative shots before India were dismissed for 169 off 45 overs.
This was India’s second successive defeat in two matches having lost the ‘opener to New Zealand by a whooping margin.
Terry Alderman, who was declared man of the match, was instrumental in Australia’s win, working up a tidy pace and obtaining lift from the pitch, he collected five wickets for 32 runs from 10 overs.
CHRISTCHURCH: The high-flying Kiwis were brought down to earth with a big bang as Australia crushed their neighbors by 150 runs with 24.4 overs to epare in a one-day game of the triangular contest at the Lancaster park here on March 4th.
Batting first, a sensible century by Dean Jones and his 145-run second wicket stand with David Boon (67) put Australia in a position of strength with a total of 244 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs.
