GURMEKH SINGH, a 41 year old Sikh, from Punjab, India, was fatally injured on October 10, 1986, in the City of Sunnyvale. Mr. Singh was a pedestrian at the intersection of El Camino Real and Mary Avenue, and was crossing within a clearly marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle operated by Peter Dailey, JR

Eyewitnesses have indicated that Mr. Dailey, Jr. ran a red light for traffic in his direction, and entered the intersection at an excessive rate of speed. The accident is presently under investigation by the Sunnyval Office of Public Safety. It is undecided at this point whether any follow up proceedings will be instituted against any and all responsible parties.

‘The decedent was in a coma for three (3) days following the accident, at Stanford Medical Centre. Mr. Singh had recently migrated to the United States with his wife and four minor children. He was sponsored locally by Gurdev Singh, who is employed at Applied Technology, in Sunnyvale. He was a retired major in the Indian Army. While in the service, he received numerous awards, including medals for heroism.

Mohinder S. Mann, attorney for decedent’s family, has filed a ‘wrongful death action in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Claiming damages in excess of two million dollars, including a claim for punitive damages, against the driver of the vehicle.

Religious and funeral services were held at Oakhill Mortuary, in San Jose.
