LIMA, PERU: Maoist guerrillas killed the deputy mayor of a sprawling shantytown on the edge of Lima Jan.11 in what appeared to be part of a campaign of intimidation before municipal elections, officials said.
Sendero Luminoso guerrillas entered the home of Ramon Galindo, deputy mayor of Villa El Salvador and candidate of the United Left party for January elections, and shot him six times.
Galindo is the second municipal candidate killed by the Sendero Luminoso since the electoral campaign began in December.
